Longer Drying Times
Are you having difficulties doing your laundry? Have you noticed a Lint Buildup on the Dryer Vent? Does it seem like your dryer is taking longer than usual to dry a load? If so, the culprit could be in the DRYER DUCT.
Regarding newer Dryers, you may receive an error code that lets you know something is amiss. The error code could mean there is air flow restriction. If that is indeed the case, the duct Line should be inspected by a professional and plan a course of action to rectify the issue.
How Frequently Should Dryer’s Be Cleaned And What Happens If Neglected
Ideally, you should have your Dryer Vent serviced every year or two to prolong the life of the equipment and reduce the risk of a fire. Dryer Vents usually become clogged with Lint from vent failure, improper installation, or years of neglection.

Common Installation Mistakes
Screws For Dryer Vents
We have found and continue to find that many older homes and new constructions have been improperly installed. Screws in the vent pipe traps and accumulates lint to the point of blocking most of the air flow. This is a code violation and it should be rectified or it will require frequent cleanings
Wrong Dryer Vent Caps
Some installers have used the wrong types of vents on rooftops and wall vents. The picture shows one type of vent that is meant for exhaust fans or kitchen exhaust, not to be used for dryer vents. In other cases we have found vents with screens to prevent birds from getting in but it also stops lint from exiting the vent, later blocking the airflow. Only vents designed for dryer should be used, with dampers that close when not in use and open when is in use
Wrong Size Dryer Vent Pipe
Using a smaller or bigger diameter dryer vent pipe for residential dryers is a no and is a code violation. A bigger dryer vent pipe reduces the velocity needed to exhaust all the lint from the line. A smaller dryer vent pipe will restrict heat from exiting and also accumulate more lint in the line. Never reduce or exceed the 4” diameter of the dryer vent pipe (code requires dryer vent pipe to be at least 4” in diameter but for residential we recommend not goin wider than 4”)
Extra Long Dryer Vent Pipe
There are houses that exceed the 35ft length of the dryer vent pipe (including 90/45-degree elbows) reducing the pressure needed to exit all the heat and lint. This pipes should be rerouted or booster fans should be added, either way it may require more frequent cleanings
